Comment Rescue: Ron Paul Breaks Fundraising Record
I know that I am breaking a vow of silence that all of us “journalists” have taken regarding Ron Paul, but I have to say that this is noteworthy.
It seems that the people who like Paul REALLY like him.

Over at DWA Tyler Nixon says:

If those are donations and not pledges, that’s an average donation of about $102 meaning that this is a full blown grassroots movement.
Paul also got an endorsement from Andrew Sullivan. Now that means something different to different people (and zero to me), but he’s sorta mainstream.
What? Nothing about how Ron Paul is the anti-Christ ?
I guess he is not regarded as a Huckabee-esque level threat to Romney yet?
Paul doesn’t have Huckabee’s flaws.

The numbers are actual donations, not pledges, and in fact the final number will be slightly higher because of the offline donations that also came in yesterday but not added to the online calculations.

Even more telling than the money haul is the # of donors. These are just regular people ponying up for Dr. Paul through small donations which averaged just over $100/person.
These are people who are also committed to organizing on the ground for Paul across the country. The level of enthusiasm and dedication in Paul’s supporters is unlike anything I have seen for any presidential candidate in my lifetime.
Campaigns can’t buy these types of motivated self-organizing ground forces, not to mention how self-starting they are in their efforts. You are right this is becoming a grassroots movement in the truest sense.
Well there was a guy named Howard Dean..and since you mentioned the people across the country I would make a suggestion to Dr. Paul based on what happened to Dean.
Don’t try to spend the money in Iowa and NH.
