When Political Confidence Becomes Hubris

Filed in National by on November 30, 2007

I’ll just cut and paste from today’s NJ and you be the judge.  Does it seem like Baker is as a mayor or a central American “El Jeffe?”

Baker said he would not engage his competition so early in the campaign. “Just tell all the wannabes out there that I’m running the city and they can do whatever,” he said.

WTF? That was in response to this from Tyler Nixon.

Nixon said he will craft a document for all voters similar to Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America in the mid-1990s. It will include a voluntary pledge limiting the mayor’s tenure to eight years rather than 12. He’ll ask all candidates to sign the contract.

“It won’t be full of Republican points, but doable structural policy changes that will appeal to all voters,” he said. “I think eight years is enough. There’s a good reason we’ve never had a three-term mayor. They move up the political food chain and become too fat and cozy with the way things are.”

Is it me?

I just hope Tyler doesn’t cheat on his dying wife and leave her for dead while he rebuilds the city

    LOL!

  3. Brian says:

Maybe Rudy Guiliani is his consultant too. Like El Jefe’s.

Donviti sounds like he knows a good story there.

Not so sure about the El Jefe business, but Baker may be the most short-tempered and imperious politicians I have ever met. Saw him “debating” Bovell in the last election and while the debate was something of a smackdown, Baker was clearly perturbed to have to be in the room with the newbie. But then, we are talking about Bovell.

‘viti – you blew it for me…that was going to be my campaign slogan :

“NIXON FOR MAYOR – Because he won’t cheat on his dying wife and leave her for dead while he rebuilds the city.”

The el jefe part is a common term for the leaders of banana republics in central and Latin America…it just means the leader and is a formal title…el jefe del estado… but in many circles it denotes a dictator. Now Rudy Guiliani is el jefe…see my post from his speech: A MESSAGE FROM YUOR LEADER….and also, many of our politicians act the same way. Baker’s quote comes almost directly from the words of Manuel Noriega whether he knows that or not.

    Awesome!

you forgot to add “grrrrr” though. It makes you more Republican

    grrr…I am a registered democrat.

Grrr. So you are one of those people ruining the state? 🙂

I thought I smelled some Ruth Ann on you…

  10. cassandra m says:

Jimmy Breslin (I think?) once said of Guiliani that he was a small man in search of a balcony.

Does Mayor Baker have a red shirt like el Jefe Chavez? If not, there’s a Photoshop gem just waiting to happen. I’m seeing a caption where he proposes to dissolve the city council…

“I’m seeing a caption where he proposes to dissolve the city council…”

    hmmm. that means big danger.

But I think he prefers a business suit.

    A couple comments:

Why would Baker dissolve the city council?

9/10th of them are working hand in glove with him.

Dying wife? I did not know…what I do know is that his son, who was killed (car) a couple years ago was raised by non other than Ed Osborne (of anti eminent domain fame)….

Basically Baker ignored the kid his whole life (financially and emotionally)until it was time to ‘pay your respects to the boy’s family’…Baker became the focus of this out pouring of sympathy….basking in the limelight.

That was only one of several Baker children around…all raised by ‘single moms’.

I could go on and on. How about the ‘homeless’ woman that was pregnant w/Baker during one winter…he wouldn’t take her in…she had to live out of a car. Nice guy….

Baker is a slime ball of arrogance and cruelty…and he doesn’t deserved a third time anymore than he predecessors.
