FOIA Request for Documents Related to Castle’s Claims to be “working” on changing Bush’s Iraq policy

Filed in National by on April 27, 2007

It is possible that Castle has been working in secret or in some back channel way to change Bush’s empty headed Iraq policy. I doubt it, but it is possible. So I am going to give Wenk a few days to come up with something before I send off this FOIA request.

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I request that a copy of documents containing the following information be provided to me: Documents related to your April 26th claim to have “worked to encourage the administration to change direction and implement a robust diplomatic strategy to secure the country and turn responsibility over to the Iraqis.”

Based on a careful review of the public record this claim appears to be false. In the event that you have been working in some secret or clandestine way to change the Bush administration’s Iraq policy, I feel that there is pressing need to make that information public. Therefore, this FOIA request includes, but is not limited to the following types of material that would substantiate your claim.

– Letters (Written by you or for your signature, drafted or published),
– Editorials (drafted or published),
– Bills/Resolutions submitted to congress (drafted or published),
– Issue Advocacy Statements,
– Petitions (drafted or published)

In order to help to determine my status to assess fees, you should know that I am a representative of the news media and this request is made as part of a news gathering and not for commercial use. I request a waiver of all fees for this request.

Disclosure of the requested information to me is in the public interest because it is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the veracity of your claims to be “working” to influence the Bush administration.

Thank you for your consideration of my request.
