If you resign can you be tried as a traitor?

The British newspaper The Times has a report today that top US generals are prepared to quit the military if they are ordered to attack Iran. It could be that the Commander-in-Chief would have to hop on his mountain bike and lead the troops to victory in Iran, Napoleon-style.

I’ve always maintained that Congress will not be able to rein in the rogue CINC and the military will have to step in. This points to a serious Constitutional problem. At a minimum, the War Powers Act should be reformed, and no AUMF should be passed without an annual recertification and provisions for revocation.

What is to stop the second chair generals from following Bush’s stupid orders?

We’ve already seen this play out. Bush will have enough yes men around him to do whatever he wants to do until CONGRESS steps in.

    Impeachment!

Maybe the thought of a new CINC in 2009 will clarify their thinking.

    Your 100% right !

Iraq, we need to draw back to the borders and lockdown Iraq !Let the Iraq government purge the insurgent.

I not 100% convinced there is a civil war going on in Iraq. The violence seems driven from insurgents coming in from outside Iraq and if I am wrong then let them have their civil war. The prize is not control of the people but control of the oil! As far as Iran, walk away and let the other Middle East countries deal with them. Let Russia deal with the Frankenstein they are supporting in Iran. If Iran builds ICBMS capable of reaching the United States then bomb them off the face of the Earth.

Too bad Governor Minner won’t let them identify themselves as “generals” when expressing personal opinions which may contradict the administration.

If the generals resign over an unjustified Iran attack, they should get a Medal of Freedom.

  7. liberalgeek says:

Please note, G, that the Generals were not identified. Any guesses why? What do you think would happen to their title if they openly disagreed with W?
At least Aunt Bea didn’t try to make him stop the criticism, like the Bush Admin has done with NOAA and NASA employees.

  8. G Rex says:

Yeah, I guess I was thinking more of those retired generals who made a stink about how Rumsfeld was mean to them. And I was directing snark at Ruthie.

  9. liberalgeek says:

    Roger that. Snarkiness is encouraged.
